Our goal at Coast spine and sports medicine is to manage her pain and improve overall function. We use medications to achieve those goals when appropriate. The emphasis is finding the right nonnarcotic medications to help manage her symptoms so you can keep on doing her daily activities, recreational activities, hobbies and perform necessary work requirements. Narcotic medications are occasionally used when nonnarcotic medications have not achieved her goals. In that scenario we usually try to prescribe less potentially addictive medications such as Tylenol with Codeine or tramadol. More highly addictive medications such as Norco or Percocet are used only for our postoperative patients for a brief period of time. We follow all the rules and regulations including obtaining opioid agreements and doing appropriate drug screen testing and reviewing cures reports.
