PRP Injections for Shoulder Injuries

Shoulder Pain Treatment in Los AngelesWhy are shoulder injuries so common among bodybuilders? The most debilitating conditions affecting body builders are shoulder bursitis and/or tendonitis. They are common injuries due to overuse where the arm is continuously used in an overhead motion such as swimming, throwing a football, or baseball. The pain is usually felt at the tip of the shoulder and radiates into the upper arm. While overuse is the most common cause of shoulder bursitis, a loose shoulder joint may cause it as well. The best way to heal tendonitis in the shoulder is the rest the muscle, warm up, and exercise to strengthen the shoulder. If it is not healing, a PRP injection to the affected joint will greatly improve the chances of improvement!

While rest, strengthening exercises, and continuous warm ups may improve shoulder bursitis cases where surgery is necessary do occur. A PRP injection is a non surgical alternative to shoulder surgery. The platelet rich plasma is injected directly to the tissue in a quick in office procedure. Because no drugs are utilized during a PRP injection, it remains a drug free and natural alternative to traditional shoulder surgery or corticosteroid injections.

Non Surgical Relief for Knee Pain

Pain Management in Los Angeles
Orange County orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Mohemani offers PRP knee injections

Are you suffering from knee pain, osteoarthritis, or a sports related injury?

Orthopedic Surgeon and Spine Specialist Dr. Michael Moheimani has a solution for knee pain with a natural non surgical approach to medicine through platelet rich plasma injections to the spine, reducing the need for invasive surgery, the need for opioid use, and avoiding potential misuse.

A large cause of knee pain comes from osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition in which the cartilage that cushions the joint begins to break down. The breakdown of this tissue will eventually lead to pain, joint stiffness, and sometimes swelling. Articular cartilage is the highly specialized connective tissue found in the joint. Its principal function is to provide a cushion end surface for load bearing activities.

Symptoms of osteoarthritis include pain, stiffness, reduced range of motion, sleep problems, and crunching. Dr. Moheimani can remedy these symptoms through a PRP or Bone Marrow Aspirate Progenitor Cell injection to the knee, removing the need to knee surgery.

A Natural Non Surgical Solution for Back Pain

Upper & Lower Back Pain Treatment in Los AngelesAt any given time, 31 million Americans suffer from low back pain. According to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, an estimated 75 to 85 percent of all Americans will experience some form of back pain during their lives.
While pain medication and opioids have been a solution for individuals suffering from lower back pain, opioids can be harmful, habit forming, potentially fatal, and aren’t natural.
Orthopedic Surgeon and Spine Specialist Dr. Michael Moheimani has a solution for back pain with a natural non surgical approach to medicine through platelet rich plasma injections to the spine, reducing the need for invasive surgery, the need for opioid use, and avoiding potential misuse.
Platelet rich plasma comes from your own blood. Although blood is mainly a liquid, it also contains small solid components such as red and white blood cells, and platelets. The platelets are best known for clotting blood, they also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are important in the healing of torn or degenerated tissue.
To develop PRP, blood must first be drawn from a patient. The platelets are separated from other blood cells, and their concentration is increased during a process called centrifugation. The increased concentration of platelets is then injected during the same office visit to the spine under x-ray guidance.

We have seen doctors use PRP for beauty needs such as vampire facials, repairing hair loss, healing arthritic joints such as knees or tennis elbow and for torn ligaments and tendons. Dr. Moheimani is injecting this magical cocktail of platelets to the spine, allowing the damaged and torn discs to regenerate with the body’s own healing ability, reducing lower back pain.

Will Jamon Brown Play this Season?

Jamon Brown of the Los Angeles Rams was reported injured and out for the season after sustaining an injury to his hand. According to Rich Hammond of the OC Register, Brown was inactive in Week 9 due to complications from his surgically-repaired hand, but looks like he will be available Sunday as a reserve option along the Rams’ offensive line.

Brown underwent surgery on his hand during the Rams’ bye week but claims he will be ready to play Week 9, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.

If Brown was indeed able to return to action against the Panthers, he will provide depth along the Rams’ offensive line. Unfortunately, Brown was not able to play against the Panthers on Sunday November 6th.

Rich Hammond wrote that Brown actually suffered a spiral fracture to the fourth metacarpal in his left hand during practice that week and didn’t play against the New York Giants. He had surgery last week after the team returned home.

“Honestly, it was just playing football, [during a community NFL event in London]” Brown said. “I was in practice and I felt my hand kind of pop. I thought it was jammed and I tried to continue with practice. Once I found out that I couldn’t, that’s when they rushed me to get X-rays and I found out I had a spiral fracture.”

According do Dr. Shadi Amin of Coast Spine Medicine, “unfortunately, for injuries like this there is very little that can be done with PRP once the bone has become separated. We wish Jamon Brown the best of luck with his recovery and rehabilitation. “

Stephen Curry Chooses PRP Over Cortisone Injections and Here Is Why…

PRP & Bone Marrow Aspirate Progenitor Cell Therapy in Los AngelesThe year 2016 marked the year Stephen Curry joined the crew of star athletes that chose PRP injections over cortisone injections. Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, Alex Rodriguez, and Stephen Curry chose to have an injection of their own platelet rich plasma into their extremities.

The application can be used to treat acute injury or long term degenerative disease. The concentrated platelet rich plasma releases growth factors and cell mediators that have been shown to greatly promote the repair of damaged tissue.  Studies demonstrate significant and almost linear improvements in knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome scores. These improvements include pain and symptom relief after knee movement and at rest. Many patients express a sustained and favorable outcome after 12 months of treatment.

On April 25th, 2016, the Warriors PR reported Stephen Curry sustained a Grade 1 MCL knee sprain and that he would be out for a minimum of two weeks. On May 4th 2016 Stephen had a PRP injection, and less then two weeks later, was back in game 3 of the playoffs.

PRP is not magic, it’s science. Dr. Moheimani is thrilled to announce that his PRP injections are available in his Mission Viejo office as well as Santa Ana, Long Beach, Downey, Rancho Cucamonga, and Corona.

Dr. Moheimani offers non surgical platelet rich plasma injections in his offices in Orange County and the Inland Empire. What is platelet rich plasma and why is it so valuable to someone seeking pain relief?

Platelet rich plasma, or PRP, is a concentrated form of of growth factors and cell mediators that have been shown to greatly promote the repair of damaged tissues. The knees might become damaged due to trauma, such as a car accident or sports injury. The knee joint may also break down over time due to a chronic condition called osteoarthritis. The breakdown of the knee tissue will eventually lead to pain, joint stiffness, and sometimes swelling.

No matter the cause of knee pain, the fact is it can be debilitating. Individuals that are suffering from chronic knee pain or knee injury are less likely to exercise, causing them to gain weight over time. Dr. Moheimani can perform an injection of platelet rich plasma or PRP into the knee joint in a quick outpatient procedure.

The affected area is injected with platelet rich plasma or bone marrow aspirate, and it may be used to treat acute injury or long term degenerative disease. The concentrated platelet rich plasma, PRP knee injection, releases growth factors and cell mediators that have been show to greatly promote the repair of damaged tissue.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition in which the cartilage that cushions the joint, begins to break down. The breakdown of this tissue will eventually lead to pain, joint stiffness, and sometimes swelling. Articular cartilage is the highly specialized connective tissue found in the joint. Its principal function is to provide a cushioned surface for load bearing activities. The articular cartilage covers the bone surfaces in the joint and when the cartilage degenerates it causes the surfaces of the bone to rub against each other, leading to the complications of osteoarthritis.

What are some symptoms of osteoarthritis?

Pain: the joints may ache and the pain may be sharp or feel like a burning sensation. For some people, the pain may be intermittent. Constant pain or pain while sleeping may be a sign that the arthritis is getting worse.
Stiffness: getting out of bed in the morning becomes more difficult with osteoarthritis. The joints may feel stiff until you start moving. Stiffness may also occur after sitting.
Reduced range of motion: as osteoarthritis progreses, bending, flexing, and extending becomes much more difficult. It can progress to the point of total dysfunction.
Sleep problems: the pain and stiffness of arthritis can disrupt sleep. And sleep problems may make it harder to cope with the pain.
Crunching: your joints may make crunching sounds. This noise may also occur in a normal joint, but when combined with other symptoms of osteoarthritis, this noise becomes more significant.

The Role Gender Can Play In Recovery

Lindsay Lohan is reportedly doing well in rehab this time. She had the option of rehab or jail, she chose wisely, and is now participating in treatment for 90 days.

Rehab has not been super effective for LiLo in the past, but reports say that she asked to be transferred from The Betty Ford Center to Cliffside Malibu because drugs were being offered by other clients said an orthopedic surgeon.

This Time Around

Lindsay seems to be taking care of herself this time. She wants to do the work to stay sober, so the temptation, supposedly OxyContin, was disturbing to Lindsay. Not we know her, but we hear enough about her behaviors to think that Old Lindsay may have said “Screw it!” and taken the opiate to get high, completely forgoing the days of sobriety she had achieved.

Not New Lindsay though. She’s clean, and doing the work. No Orange County pain management needed.

Would she be doing even better though if she was in an all womens drug treatment program? Gender-specific rehab is yielding great results for addicts from all walks of life. There is something about a same-sex friendship that cannot be recreated with someone of the opposite sex.

Co-Ed Controversy

Pictures have surfaced of Lindsay with coed co-clients. Is she in any way risking her sobriety by maybe dressing up to impress the male clients? Are clients naturally distracted by the presence of the opposite sex?

Lindsay may be sharing stories of why she started using in the first place, and something tells me her dad has a role in that. Would you be as open sharing that information with a room full of men and women as you would be sharing in a room full of women? Is a woman going to be more at ease talking about her past in an all womens drug treatment program?

Is a man going to be as comfortable talking about past sexual encounters during his active using life when there are female clients present?

Treatment is different for everyone, but what would you prefer?

Time Will Tell

We may have more time to find out what works best for Lindsay Lohan because it has been recommended that she extend her rehab stay to longer than 90 days. The treatment team at Cliffside Malibu believes Lindsay, and celebrities overall, need more time than people who are not constantly in the public eye.

Maybe Lindsay can try a 30-day program in an all womens drug treatment facility. Maybe there are other skills and strategies for changing her life that will come during that additional time. If you’re reading this Lindsay, girl, do whatever you can to get your life back into your own control. You are a talented actress and people love paying attention to you, so use that all for good. Think of the roles you could play next. Think of the future that lies ahead for you, if you can continue a life of recovery from drugs, alcohol, and outrageous behavior that gets our legal system involved.

Try anything you can to make sobriety your reality. We are all rooting for you!

Top Foods For Winter Wellness

The general thinking among the UK public during the bitingly cold months of winter seems to be that not only clothing needs to be bulkier; meals must be heavier too. For this not to impact on body weight would mean a compensating level of physical activity, which is seldom the case. A 2000 study by Jack A Yanovski and colleagues published in the New England Journal of Medicine reports that, although the average winter weight gain was not significant, efforts to shed the extra pounds when the weather grew warmer were seldom made. With obesity and its related illnesses becoming a national health concern, this is seen as an obvious and on-going contributing factor.
The importance of healthy eating in winter not only impacts on physical well-being, but also on emotional. It can protect against colds and flu, as well as those darker moods that seem to accompany the darker days. Immune-boosting nutrition can also offer a large measure of protection against life-threatening diseases such as cancer.
Vitamin C has always been called on to fight colds and flu and this is because of its ability to boost the body’s production of infection-fighting white blood cells. It also produces higher levels of antibodies like interferon, which prevent viruses from entering cells. Guavas and red peppers have among the highest concentrates of vitamin C. Eaten raw these provide maximum benefit, but the peppers can be liberally added to winter soups and stews for more protective punch. Surprisingly, oranges have less than half the vitamin C content of these two super-foods.
On the scale of super-foods, broccoli is considered a kingpin. It is simply loaded with vitamin C, calcium, beta-carotene and potassium and contains two very powerful cancer-fighting substances. Spinach is another green with similar nutritional muscle. Using both of these to bulk-up soups and stews will contribute much to the body’s protective arsenal. Flavouring agents can also lend a large measure of protection against winter misery.
There is a reason why garlic was chosen as a defence against vampires: It is simply packed with power. Thought to have anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial elements, garlic easily deals with symptoms of the common cold. It reduces cholesterol, fights heart disease, lowers blood sugar, clears chest infections and stimulates the production of aggressive cells that attack cancerous cells. MRSA strains that are resistant to antibiotics have also been known to respond to garlic.
There is a wide range of fruit and vegetables with the ability to boost our immunity to illness and most are easily incorporated into the hearty soups and stews that give comfort during the cold bleakness of winter. Mushrooms assist with white blood cell production. Chillies have great anti-bacterial and decongestant properties. Honey is a great anti-inflammatory, infection-fighting, antiseptic, immunity-boosting accompaniment for warm winter puddings and the average spice rack contains cold-fighting agents like ginger and turmeric. It only remains to find inventive new ways of adding these to most of our winter dishes; thereby adding to our winter arsenal.

Exercising or “working out” as many call it, is one of the most common ways of keeping fit. Keeping fit is important because it helps you perform your daily tasks more easily, and helps reduce stress as well as helping you keep fit.

There are many ways of exercising. Some people choose yoga, some do aerobics, others walk, while others prefer going to the gym. However, one of main types exercising that many people have adopted is running or jogging. It is an easy way of working out as it requires no costs, special facilities, or a trainer. All you need is personal initiative and you are well on your way to healthy living.

If you choose running as your preferred way of exercising, there are a few things you should take into consideration. For example, you need to decide on the most appropriate time of day to do a run. This could be on a morning or evening. Either time will do. Another thing to consider is your running shoes. The right running shoes are important since the wrong shoe for your foot can cause injuries. Experts also advise against switching from conventional running shoes suddenly to minimalistic running shoes or barefoot running. Shoes meant for running will complement your exercise therefore you need to go for the best.
